The Huawei OptiX OSN 580 is a new-generation universal transport platform. It adopts a unified switching architecture and supports any mix of traffic, from all-circuit to all-packet. The OSN 580 offers a converged, reliable and cost-efficient transport platform to meet the needs of missioncritical applications such as control and monitor energy and distribution grids, gas and oil pipelines, railways and authorities.

- 40G: Integrates OTU, MUX and DEMUX boards using a PID (photonics integrated device), providing 40G capacity per port,which will later be expanded to 100G

- SMART: Supports any mix of TDM & Packet service transport on each port, allowing evolution from 100% TDM to 100% packet

- Free optical layer design: No complicated photonic layer design, such as wavelength planning or OSNR calculation

- Long-Haul transmission: Distance up to 240km with amplifiers, up to 80km without amplifier

Multiprotocol Label Switching-Transport Profile (MPLS-TP), a connection-oriented packet transport technology that is decoupled from IP and combines the transport requirements such as strong OAM and protection. By using MPLS-TP, the customer will have the following benefits when addressing their transition to packet networks.

- Guaranteed Performance from end-to-end committed bandwidth mechanism

- 99.999% availability: 50 ms recovery for both linear and ring applications
